Total Flash Websites and Search Engines

We have entered into an era where the internet is our biggest tool. Its almost mandatory for a business to have a website. Not just any website, but a website that works!

What is a website that works?
I'm glad you asked! Do you have a total flash website? If you answered "Yes", then this is for you! With this said, your website works in terms of functionality; however, no one can search the search engines, such as Google, and find your business using keywords. Everyone that goes to your website is someone that was referred there or have been directed there by a networking source. Those website hits are good but your traffic could be much more if your site was not total flash. More traffic means more potential customers!

How do I get more traffic?
You MUST have a static website instead of or in addition to your total flash website. I know the total flash looks great and you like all the movement but lets face it, alone, it simply does not bring results. You NEED a search engine friendly site.

What is SEO?
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. It is various techniques used to get a website visible in the main search engines. The goal is to get a website on the 1st page. People sometimes click to the second page but rarely does anyone search pass that. Doing SEO on a website is time consuming and you do not get results overnight. It simply takes time. I have seen results in 6 months, some 1 year. The results vary for everyone.

Why SEO cannot be done on total flash websites?
When a total flash website is created, it only produces 2 files that are published to the internet, the .html file and the .swf file. All of the content is within the SWF file. SWF files are not crawlable by the search engines. The content need to be a certain way in order for the search engines to crawl it. Since SWF files are not searchable, other languages must be used such as HTML, PHP, ASP, etc. to display text, links, and images. The text, including the links, are the most important part of a website that is optimized for the web. There must be static links displayed on all the web pages. The content of the web pages must be well written and certain keywords should be used. Not only do you have to have great content that speaks directly to your target audience but you must also have unique META tag data for each web page. And lets not forget, you must have an XML site map.

These are just a few things that go into having a search engine friendly website. Stay tuned for our upcoming blog on all things that you need for having a successful SEO friendly website.
